    Creative Interests

Below are some of my non-professional interests that have helped develop me as a professional! I know it sounds sort of ‘oxymoronish’, but in the professions of Instructional Design and Teaching, creativity is a critical component of success. My creative interests have helped shape many of my instructional materials and strategies.

Photography
I enjoy shooting anything in its natural situation: birds, bugs, people, streets…anything can come within the firing range of my camera! I like to frame the surroundings into a cohesive whole to create images that tell a story deeper than what the eye perceives. Check out some samples of my camera visions using the slider below. To view in zoom mode and read the captions, just click on the photograph. Having a photographic ‘eye’ has allowed me to visualize the process of instructional design in unique ways and also to create documentations that can ‘speak’ to its viewers.
Flower Puppy

Flower Puppy

This is a photo of my darling puppy, juxtaposed with the full bloomed hibiscus in my indoor garden. The hibiscus is actually quite a few meters away from the puppy. The puppy is sitting on top of the couch.

Heart of a blossom

This is a very close shot of a flower's upper petals.

Backyard beauty

Backyard beauty

This is a photo of my backyard that I took a few days ago. The 'tree' is actually the branch of a larger tree, framed within the backdrop of the sunset.

Traveling
I love to travel with my family and friends. To date I have been to 108 countries and counting. Traveling to different places has created a deeper ‘global’ understanding of the way we communicate and conduct ourselves in different parts of the world. It has helped develop a greater insight into how to fashion instructional materials to suit the needs of an ever wide-spreading global audience. Check out some photographs from my trips to South Africa, Jordan, and Lisbon. To view in zoom mode and read the captions, just click on the photograph.

This is a South African Kudu, a beautiful creature of the gazelle family.

Out of this world: Petra, Jordan

Out of this world: Petra, Jordan

This place does feel out of this world. At least I felt 'out of it' after climbing 1100 steps to get to the Monastery!

Chapel of Bones in Evora, Portugal

Chapel of Bones in Evora, Portugal

Creepy, austere and yet beautiful reminder of the value of life, which can perhaps be better appreciated when contrasted with death.

King of the jungle

King of the jungle

We were fortunate enough to see a pride of lions up close and personal.

Creative Writing
I love to write, and not just scholarly papers!. In fact I started my writing career as a hobby and then realized how useful it can be for the teaching and instructional design fields. Indulging in creative writing allows me to think flexibly and outside the box when designing items for my learners. Check out some samples from my work-in-progress. using the PDF files below Also, you can find my Poem Anthology published under the name: Reflections on a Sunny Day. It is available in most online stores including Amazon.com.
